A lot of our customers felt that they could have grown their social community at their event. However, there were some common mistakes that affected their social media presence. Here are 5 basic steps that we identify from our successful customers:
1. Embrace your official hashtag
The most obvious thing to do is to put your hashtag on your website or your social account. I don’t mean to only put it in the title or header, but you need to fully embrace your hashtag. Instead of calling the event with its name, call it “#NAME” with the hashtag. Use your official hashtag instead of using your event’s name. This will help your attendees recognize your hashtag much better.
2. Have signs to call out your hashtag
To call out your hashtag, you should have big signs everywhere at your event. With this way, it will guide almost everyone to tweet or take pictures with the correct hashtag. Having a clear sign tells people that the event is socially active and asks people to engage.
3. Have a dedicated social media staff
The social media staff should create content with your hashtag prior and during your event. Prior to the event, staff should update anything from status to news related to your event topic with your hashtag. This will improve your social presence even before your event. During the event, have one of your staff post content every 1/2 hours.
4. Have a Social Wall
Having an animated social wall on a big display is popular in today’s digital age. It will not only attract people to engage through social media, but it can gather leads and showcase your sponsor better. Through Social Wall, firms will be able to display their content which will encourage them to sponsor your event to promote their brand.
5. Try something different
LiveBlog your event
Have a social media person to record as the event unfolds and embed the LiveBlog on a web page. This page then will serve as a great record of past events where results, pictures, and videos can be saved.
Have a game for your event
Gamification is becoming more and more popular at events. Having a game that is both fun and promotes your brand at the same time will be a great fit for a lot of events. Games like Instagram competition, treasure hunt, green screen photo booth and Twitter vending machine can be great additions to make your event more social.
